Egghead to English™ Translation Services

What we do

Alex, Bakerloo, and our crew read academic papers, explain them in everyday language, and say why it matters. Sometimes the household chimes in. We might add a sidebar or add some humor so the truth lands softer. Sometimes we have a “call to action” for those who want to take a next step. We try to do a good job, but no promises.

Who this is for:

Authors, journalists, students, practitioners, curious citizens—anyone who wants the gist without the jargon.

How it works:

  1. You nominate a publicly accessible paper.
  2. We publish the plain-English piece and send you a link.
  3. You respond by commenting on the post (or not, your option).

Note: Due to limited resources, we are unable to accommodate all requests.

Where this idea came from.

We attended the Artificial Intelligence, Ethics, and Society conference in Madrid in October, 2025. Bakerloo couldn’t understand many of the academic papers, so Alex explained them to him in plain English.

We are inspired by the Solutions Journalism movement, and we want to give flight to ideas from the academic press that can solve real-world problems facing individuals or society.

Here is a song Alex wrote about speaking plainly.
